LOS ANGELES, Sept. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Happy to apply his expertise to the new product aptly coined, “the beverage industry game changer” Jim Harford has joined the WaterBox team in support of the Eco-Carton, a paperboard beverage container with a unique mineralized barrier coating that supports the environment.  Harford began his stellar career in the soft drink industry in 1967 and soon became the youngest corporate Vice President in Royal Crown Cola Company’s history in 1969.  He has held other executive positions, and was tapped to  manage large beverage investments for both First Boston and Citi-Corp Venture Capital. He managed the integration of  Everfresh  Juice Company and  LaCroix Sparkling Water for National Beverage Company ,  and developed the Asian Concentrate business for Monarch Beverages.  Jim has been engaged in a diversified beverage consulting practice in the last several years focusing on the introduction of new products into the market.

Lee Ann Powers, Creator of the WaterBox Eco-Carton said of Harford, “We couldn’t be happier to have Jim’s wealth of knowledge behind our Eco-Carton product.  The various executive positions he has held throughout his career are not only impressive, they’re invaluable when applied to what we think will revolutionize how the beverage industry packages drinks.”

Hoping to translate some of Harford’s financial expertise to the Eco-Carton, owners of WaterBox have launched a crowdfunding project on indiegogo with a $37,000 funding goal.  At crowdfunding’s end the Eco-Carton will be on its way to replacing the current use of beverage containers that employ polyethylene plastic coatings that are so harmful to the environment.  Never before seen in the packaging industry the Eco-Carton’s healthful mineralized barrier coating will be a viable way to help reduce the environmental crisis.

Taking a hint from the $11 billion Americans spent on bottled water last year alone WaterBox understands the consumer’s need for portability when it comes to beverages.  That said, the company’s major concern is that less than twenty percent of those water bottles were recycled last year.  This translates to plastic bottles infecting oceans, lakes, rivers and landfills for years to come. The Eco-Carton will not only amply reduce the plastic pollution problem it will generously solve the customer’s need for convenience healthfully.  With a further reduction of the carbon footprint WaterBox makes the pot even sweeter by making the Eco-Carton cost effective to the consumer.  The Eco-Carton’s paperboard packaging coated with a mineralized barrier is made from ninety-seven percent sustainable and renewable materials.  The mineralized resins are high performance and FDA compliant.  Even the product’s inks and finishes are plant based.  Powers adds, “This product is recyclable as advocated by the Carton Council.  Additionally, the Eco-Carton will lessen the volatile organic compounds emitted during both production and recycling.”

WaterBox Founder LeeAnn Powers is based in Los Angeles, California and has ten years of experience in the beverage industry giving her ample familiarity with the industry’s competitive landscape.  An innovator of other boxed water products in several configurations Powers is familiar with her product’s appeal and how to get it into the right hands for mass production.  The Eco-Carton is deemed as revolutionary and necessary for the ongoing wellbeing of the planet.
